When you install Windows XP SP2 as virtual machine inside VMware, you might run inside the same problems like me. On the screen it looks like this…

After a reboot of the virtual machine you end up over an over again with this very explicit error message:

Installation Failed: D:\ENGLISH\WINXP\PRO_WITH_SP2\I386\asms. Error Message:
The parameter is incorrect

Fatal Error:
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed

Even though i search for quite some time i found the solution by chance… You can solve this issue inside the setting of the virtual machine. Usually the “Legacy Emulation” is activated. When you disable it

Trotz längerer Recherche, bin ich eher durch Zufall über die Lösung gestolpert. Das Problem lässt sich in den Einstellungen der virtuellen Maschine lösen. Hier ist als Standard die “Legacy Emulation” aktiviert.
